چکیده

MAMMALIAN SKELETAL MUSCLE has been studied with histochemical techniques after various experimental procedures such as nerve section,’-4Jo neuronal regeneration,5.6 “foreign” and cross innervation,T-@ and tenotomy.294 The effects of these methods upon the muscle cell were produced by direct involvement of the lower motor neuron innervation or the length of the muscle or both. In the present study, acute complete transection of the high thoracic spinal cord was performed to determine the indirect effects on the gastrocnemius and soleus muscles of adult and newborn guinea pigs. Histochemical and cytochemical changes in the muscles after cordotomy were compared with the effects of peripheral nerve section and skeletal fixation to elaborate on various aspects of the complex nerve-muscle interrelationship.

Structure and Function of Denervated Tibialis Anteriores Are Maintained by Electrical Stimulation in Rats

The skeletal muscle is a specialized tissue formed by elongated cells, most of the time the same length as the muscle, denominated muscular fibers. These cells, when observed in cross section, have a polyhedral or hexagonal shape and peripheral and flattened multiple nuclei.1 This tissue is capable of adapting when faced with a wide variety of stimuli. The interruption of the nerve supply is ca...

Histochemical And Electron Microscopic Diagnosis Of Mitochondrial Myopathy: The First Case Report From Iran

Muscle tissue, skeletal muscle as well as cardiac muscle, is commonly affected in mitochondrial disorders. One explanation for this observation is that muscle tissue has a high-energy demand and therefore is more sensitive to a deficiency of mitochondrial energy production than some other tissues. In mitochondrial disorders, skeletal muscle tissue may be affected primarily by defective respi...

The effect of reinnervation on force production and power output in skeletal muscle.

Failure to fully restore contractile function after denervation and reinnervation of skeletal muscle engenders significant disability in patients suffering peripheral nerve injuries. This work tested the hypothesis that skeletal muscle denervation and reinnervation result in a deficit in normalized power (W/kg), which exceeds the deficit in specific force (N/cm2), and that the mechanisms respon...

The effect of two episodes of denervation and reinnervation on skeletal muscle contractile function.

Sensory or motor "baby-sitting" has been proposed as a clinical strategy to preserve muscle integrity if motion-specific axons must regenerate over a long distance to reach denervated target muscles. Denervated muscles are innervated temporarily by using axons from nearby sensory or motor nerves. After motion specific motor axons have reached the target, the baby-sitter nerve is severed and mot...

Denervated changes in muscle fibers and motor end-plates.

A histochemical study was conducted on the anterior tibial muscle of rats after transection of the right sciatic nerve at the proximal third of the thigh. Fibrillation was most prominent at the 4th week after denervation and even at the 7th month tiny fibrillations were infrequently recognized. The denervated muscle reduced its wet weight rapidly for the first one nonth and thereafter the decre...
